UNSEEN OCEAN

National Geographic Emerging Explorers Summit

Tue 17 Apr | 12:00 | Petrassi hall

Grace will share stories from her undersea adventures, including her time living and working underwater as the youngest aquanaut on Fabien Cousteau’s Mission 31. She’ll also talk about the technologies she’s developed for underwater exploration, including underwater robots and camera systems, and highlight her recently completed PhD research, which uses artificial intelligence to 3D model coral reefs. She’ll discuss why NASA was interested in using her undersea research methods to explore near-Earth objects in space and the deep-diving submarine she’s helping to refurbish for newmanned expeditions into the unexplored depths of the ocean. Finally, she will talk about what she sees as the future for ocean exploration and how students can become more involved.
