A 60-year-long career and one of the most wonderful and unique voices of all the Italian scene. Ornella Vanoni is back to Rome with a brand-new show named “My story”, a tale through the music of her artistic career performing the mala (the underworld) historical songs, Brecht’s songs and all the hits that made her be so acclaimed and loved by the Italian wide audience. Ornella Vanoni was born in Milan on September 22nd 1934. She went to the Piccolo Teatro school and met Giorgio Strehler who became her maestro and partner. In 1957, she debuted in “I Giacobini” by Federico Zardi. Strehler decided to invent just for her a totally new kind of music named “canzoni della mala” (“the underworld songs”), most of which he wrote with the collaboration of Fiorenzo Carpi, Gino Negri and Dario Fo and others. With this repertoire, Ornella went to the Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto in 1959. In 1960, she met Gino Paoli who made her discover the song-writing music, and the two started an author-performer collaboration that gave life to memorable songs. The following year, she was called by Garinei Giovannini to bring the “Rugantino” to New York. From this moment on for her there were only music, records, television and festivals. Ornella and Modugno won the first prize at the Festival of Naples with “Tu sì na cosa grande”, and she also won the second prize with Nunzio Gallo with “Ammore mio”. With Sergio Bardotti, Ornella approached the fantastic world of Brazil with Vinicius de Moraes and Toquinho. The collaboration with Bardotti ends up with the album “Ornella e....”, recorded with the greatest jazz players of the world: George Benson, Herbie Hanckock, Steve Gadd, Gil Evans, Michael Brecker, Ron Carter. In the 1990s, she started to collaborate with the artistic producer Mario Lavezzi. She came back to theatre with Giorgio Albertazzi and then it came a series of epochal hits and tours. She was awarded with the honour of Knight Commander and Grand Officer. In 2018, she received important awards: “Milano Woman Award – women who made Milano great”, “Marisa Bellisario Award to Career”, “Lunezia Award”. In May 2010, she received in the Campidoglio of Rome the prestigious “Premio Simpatia 2010”. In September 2013, she released the new album called “Meticci (Io mi fermo qui)” (Mixed race – I stop here). In 2015, she started a theatre tour named “Un filo di trucco un filo di tacco” (A touch of make-up and heel).
