Ambrose Akinmusire Quartet

The New Yorker defined him “a young electrifying trumpet player and a subtle band leader, with a sound of unique inspiration”. Akinmusire is considered from the critics one of the new jazz starts. Instrumentalist of unique eclectic and refined style, he boasts prestigious collaborations, like the ones with Jon Henderson, Joshua Redman and Steve Coleman. His debut album “When The Heart Emerges Glistening”, is considered one of the best projects of our times by critics. Ambrose Akinmusire enrolled at the Berkeley High School and, still in his teenage, he debuted paying with famous artists, like the saxophone players Joe Henderson, Joshua Redman and Steve Coleman and the drummer Billy Higgins. Steve Coleman convinced him to leave the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble, the school group he played with, to take him on tour. He was also Herbie Hancock’s student in 2017 and won the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Competition. Akinmusire is famous above all for his continuous search for a new music language that always pushes him to experiment, analyse, conceptualize all the music kinds and styles, from Chopin to Bjork. Beauty is the key element of this research. He loves to be surprised by silence, tension, like a listener who pays attention to every little change. His style with the trumpet stands out for its clear sound and a virtuoso technique with no uncertainty. Left behind the teenage idols, Miles Davis e Clifford Brown, Akinmusire mixes his identity through original sounds without paying attention to trends and formalisms. His songs are never banal, they all have a personal touch, they play with the rhythm and are ideal for well-structured improvisations.
